This walk is an excellent excuse to take the Palma to Sóller railway - a dramatic ride through the Mallorcan mountains on a train that was imported from San Francisco and put into service in 1916. From the station in Bunyola, we get a chance to walk through this grand old town before climbing up the wooded slopes that surround this area, passing historic limekilns on the way.

Although the climbing is quite relentless, the woods provide shade in hot weather and once you're at the top, all the climbing is behind you. After a picnic in the shaded Cas Garriguer picnic area, we descend back via an old donkey track (beautiful views over Palma here).

As we walk back along the road to Bunyola, you may wish to stop at the Bar-Restaurant Es Garrigo. There are also many cafes and bars in Bunyola itself.

The best map to use for this walk is the 'Tour & Trail' Mallorca North and Mountains map (ISBN 978-1899554935).
