Starting from the picturesque village of Burnsall, this fairly easily followed route with its gentle climbs descends and some road-walking begins with a delightful riverside ramble. This is followed by a steady climb and a section of road and track to reach Grimwith Reservoir, with its protected wetland areas and picnic site; a great place to stop for your packed lunch with its views across the reservoir, the option for a bit of birdwatching and the friendly resident chaffinches for company.

The second half of your route crosses a stretch of moorland and open farmland favoured by lapwings and the odd curlew, followed by a steady descent with scenic views across the valley and a second pleasant riverside path that takes you into Burnsall, with a choice of tea room or pub for post-walk refreshments.

Took advantage of the unseasonal warm weather in February to do this walk. Lovely start to the walk on the riverside and a steady climb which offers great views. The stretch along the path towards Grimwith Reservoir isn't the most scenic but the reservoir itself is a great spot to lunch and watch the wildlife. The views as you climb away from the reservoir are stunning. The moorland section was easy enough and unfortunately we came across a deceased ewe which appeared to have been attacked by dogs. Really can't understand why owners just ignore the signs about keeping them on a leash during lambing season. Anyway the descent back towards Burnsall and final section along the river were delightful. A well-earned pint in the Red Lion topped off a wonderful walk. The directions were spot on as well.
