Burrator Reservoir provides the main supply of drinking water for the City of Plymouth and its location only twelve miles from Plymouth makes it a popular area for walking, offering woodland and moorland and some excellent views.

The walk starts from the large Norsworthy Bridge car park and starts with a good uphill section to the top of Down Tor. From this lovely tor the route takes you out to one of the best examples of Bronze Age stone circle and stone row on the moor.

Back via Combeshead Tor overlooking the Deancombe Valley and then on to Cuckoo Rock, a well-known local beauty spot, before a descent down to the tranquil Deancombe Valley. There are two streams to cross but they are easy enough.

Another climb follows, up to one of the most majestic tors on Dartmoor, that of Sheepstor sitting high above Burrator.

Pixies Cave sits high up on the southerly side of the tor and it has various legends attributed to it; a very small cave but it is marked on the 1:25000 map.

Downhill all the way from there, back to loop around the base of the tor before dropping down for a return to the car park through the arboretum.

This walk is excellent for an outing up to Dartmoor and at the end the Burrator Inn, open all day and serving food also all day, is a nice way to end the walk. For those who want a smaller, village atmosphere pub, there is the Royal Oak at Meavy (actually owned by Meavy Parish council).

Thanks for the feedback Will. I amended the description following your comment so that the correct Pixies Cave can be found (at least by those with a spirit of adventure) Dave Pawley - walk contributor.

Lovely walk, but one point, the cave shown is not pixies cave. Pixies cave is at GR:SX 56604 68057 a little further down than described. see link for picture: www.willdebeast.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/1176896062.JPG
