The walk is based near Beeston at the Craft Centre near the Peckforton Hills. In the Craft Centre, craftsmen may be seen at work and their products bought. There is also a large restaurant. Most of the route is along old trails that are reasonably surfaced, although there are a few field-paths. The path skirts ancient beechwoods which are home to a wide variety of birds, whilst on the summit of Raw Head, swallows, swifts and martins hunt in large numbers in summer.

Approaching waypoint 4 of the walk, 2 strands of barbed wire have been put across the path. They are at waist height, but whilst it was possible to duck under I was distracted and walked into them. A far more serious injury could occur for a small child. Geoffrey Lakin.
