Starting from the war memorial on the main road that runs through the village of Byfield, this walk first of all leads through some of the streets, along which charming houses and cottages stand, before taking a fine old bridleway out into lovely countryside, on the way to Aston le Walls. A little road-walking ensues before a footpath leads off in fields, with open views over splendid rural countryside. Sometimes in copses and spinneys the path is enclosed, but often follows field edges, allowing far-reaching views. It is never the same for long, making for varied and changing scenes and the quiet setting of small lakes where there are geese and swans, is quite delightful and invites the wanderer to stop for awhile. Byfield is entered from another direction at the end of the walk, giving a chance to see other parts of this large and very interesting village.

Nice walk in some rolling countryside . Please note at point 8 there isn't a stile in place anymore. It may make a nice diversion to go into the village of Aston le Walls which can be done by taking a walk down Main Road and then by taking a left on Appletree Lane and at the point where this road bends to the right there is a footpath on the left which will eventually lead you back to Welsh Lane. There are some interesting buildings particularly on Main Road
