From the start point cross a ridge and a valley to reach part of the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway. Follow this for a mile, then cross the valley again to return along the ridge overlooking Cardiff. Mostly on forest tracks, there is a short length of road but usually no traffic.

From the trig point at Waymark 12 there are stupendous views. You can see nearly the whole of Cardiff and the Bristol Channel. The islands directly ahead are Flat Holm and Steep Holm. Half-right, you can see the TV transmitter at Wenvoe and directly behind this you can see Dunkery Beacon, the highest point of Exmoor. To the left you can see the steelworks at Llanwern and the second Severn Crossing.
