This is a quite demanding walk and of a distance that many may find difficult. There are some steep climbs and descents. Most paths are well-walked in this area.

Though the route from Sparrowpit to Perry Dale can become overgrown, some sections have developed diversions; one stile, in this area has been moved from where shown on 1:25000 scale map.

The route from Hollins Cross onto Rushup Edge follows an ancient ridgeway and offers good views to both sides in some parts. This path between Hollins Cross to Mam Tor has in recent years been paved with stone flags, some with interesting fossils embedded.
The return route is along much less well-known paths and can in places be tricky to find the line of path, as there are few good landmarks in some areas.

The pub used on this walk is the Wanted Inn at Sparrowpit. Walkers are welcome, but not in muddy boots; be prepared to remove or cover them. They offer a good-value menu with wide choice, standards when walked were good. They did not offer a hand-pulled beer when walked, though they had a wide choice of mostly Robinson's beers.

Did this walk Saturday 4th June 2011. A great walk & a very good description. We did note a couple of things. At point 10 climb the wall style & keep walking SW towards farm buildings in the distance passing over several styles as you go. We headed left downhill as described & ended up in a private field. At point 30 we took the path down to Cave Dale. My GPS recorded the total distance of the walk as 11.8 miles considerably less than the description of 14.3 miles. Other than a few yards at point 10 I don’t think we put a foot wrong.
