The walk begins with a riverside walk and then a steep climb out of the town. It crosses fields before it picks up the first of a number of stony bridleways and a gentle descent to the village of Peak Forest. A more gradual ascent with a little road-walking brings you back to the bridleways and the limestone gorge at the back of Peak Castle. This is steep and slippery and needs care, coming as it does when you are tired.

Did the walk today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The paths around Eldon Hill and Peak Forest are not heavily used, so it had a fresh feel. It was good to get away from the bog standard loops around Castleton and explore new terrain. Didn't read the notes for Waypoint 5 carefully enough and took the prominent path, not the one described, then had to back-track, other walkers note! All descriptive notes still correct.

Did this walk today & really enjoyed it. Thanks Jim Grindle. Couple of small points: At WP11 when you turn left over the stile into the field the path goes off half right. I went left but fortunately soon realised & tracked back to WP11 to pick up the correct path. At WP23 head for the far top left hand corner of the field I headed right as the description says & after circumnavigating many high nettles was confronted by a locked gate in the far right corner. I followed the fence line & found the stile leading onto the lane in the top left hand corner of the field. Not being picky just trying to help. Had a great day out & thoroughly enjoyed this walk. Thanks again Jim & Walking world. Regards Brian.
