This walk leaves Caulcott on footpaths through open fields to reach Upper Heyford, then joins the canal towpath to pass Lower Heyford. A considerable stretch of canalside walking then follows before arriving at Northbrook Lock, where footpaths and bridleways lead away from the canal, to circle round, passing the small settlement of Northbrook, on the way back to Caulcott. Superb Oxfordshire countryside, often with far-reaching views over patchwork farmland, dotted with woods and coverts, is present for much of the route.

Look out for deer and hares and a number of different bird species, as well as a wealth of wild plants and flowers. The villages radiate peace and serenity, with pretty residences adorned by neat and attractive gardens; the whole walk is varied and interesting.

A very nice walk. There is a nice cafe/bistro (Kizzies) at the Oxfordshire Narrow Boats company for refreshments.
