A pleasant afternoon stroll along part of the North Downs Way, taking in views of the English Channel together with the view overlooking the Channel Tunnel Terminal and the entrance to the tunnel itself.

The walk visits the impressive site of a Norman 'motte and bailey' castle (Folkestone Castle) and passes through a nature reserve. There are various boards explaining the flora and fauna you may encounter en route.

The engineering of the Channel Tunnel terminal and the flyover and tunnel of the A20 (at the point where the M20 ends) form an interesting contrast.

This is quite a surprising walk to find so close to the Channel Tunnel terminal, overlooking the entire site. But it has hidden corners with wildlife and ancient history. We have updated the instructions to clarify a few points.

We found the instructions at points 10&11 confusing. From the top of the steps described at point 9 we couldn't "follow the path" because there wasn't an obvious path to follow. We followed the Canterbury Road downhill but how far is "for some distance"? Were we supposed to circumnavigate Sugarloaf Hill? We crossed the A20 beneath, not above, the tunnel entrances. After that every thing fell back into place. Notwithstanding that we enjoyed the walk and will be back to do it again soon.

Ian - could you enhance your directions generally and particularly on how to get to start point, as we did not know area and wasted 20 mins trying to start walk and then got lost and ended up walking around Sugar loaf hill - we then gave up!
