Save Our Footpaths - get off the beaten track, the return path of this circular walk is along a footpath close to Chester which is not often used. Part of it is seriously overgrown and this challenging section probably makes this walk more suitable to the serious walker. However, the route is quite level and if you need to get away for some peace and quiet it may be a good choice of route as there are no roads with heavy traffic. The outward part of the route is along a popular long distance path which is easy to follow and is fitted with kissing gates and snickets, but the twin plank bridges over streams have seen better days and one was half missing. There is a longish but very rural lane connecting the two main footpaths. The paths cross several fields which have footpath gaps through crops and the paths are likely to be muddy if it has been raining. Unless you want a real slog, avoid this walk in autumn and winter when the fields may have been ploughed. Some small meadows may have cows so best take a walking stick to fend them off if you have one. This walk includes instructions for walkers from moored canal boats.

The walk is probably most suitable for teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Good for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be strong trainers or stout shoes, but boots will be best and avoid wearing shorts as there could be lots of nettles, thistles and brambles to do battle with and taking some small secateurs would be very useful. Except for the pub at the start and finish, on your route there are no refreshments, picnic tables, bench seats or other facilities. However, if you book in advance, you should be able to get a good meal with a drink, an excellent finish to a good walk
