The walk begins from the village of Churchdown, which is situated between Cheltenham and Gloucester and with a population of 11,000, is one of the largest villages in England. After leaving the village behind, the walk very quickly begins climbing Chosen Hill, which is an isolated hill, 511 feet above sea level, to the west of the main Cotswold Ridge. The walk takes you on a slow ascent to the top of the hill, initially from the north side, where there are far-reaching views across to the Malverns behind you. It then heads through ancient woodland round to the south side of the hill, where a final, much steeper climb is made to the top, but views across the Vale of the Severn and Gloucester make it well worthwhile. The walk continues past St Bartholomew's Church, built in Norman times on the site of an Iron Age hill-fort, then descends again.

The second half of the walk is much flatter, proceeding to the small village of Badgeworth, through the grounds of another church and then returning to Chuchdown mostly alongside a pretty stream.
