The walk starts at the car park in Clifton Park, Clifton, Salford. The first section leaves the car park heading past a farm to reach the River Irwell. The river is followed through trees to reach a power station.

There is then a section alongside a housing estate through more trees to reach a business part. After a short walk through the business park the river is crossed for the first time to pass through Prestolee to reach a canal. The canal is followed for a short distance before following a rural lane. After reaching the end of the lane there is a short section along a road before crossing fields to reach Giants Seat Wood. The walk continues through the wood to reach a road which is followed past a garden centre and across the river for the fourth time.

The last section is through the edge of the park. There is a cafe and toilets near the start point. The general picture was taken between WM04 and WM05. WM01 to WM09 run roughly parallel with the railway (left and above you).
