A lovely stroll from Cockermouth and then through Papcastle to where a Roman Fort used to be situated. Next the walk goes up a lane that can be quite wet after rainfall and after that, proceeds through some fields until you reach an old railway station. Follow a large stream back to the River Derwent which passes through fields and woodland.

If you are quiet enough, kingfishers can be spotted along here. Follow the River Derwent back to Cockermouth through the fields that were devastated in the 2009 floods and return to the town centre.

Walked this mid September 2022. Some of the paths, whilst easily visible and passable, were quite overgrown with nettles and brambles. Do not attempt wearing shorts or cutoffs!

Great walk and easy to follow, did see the Kingfishers so worth watching for them.
