My wife and I walked this late March and it is a very pleasant walk and easy enough to follow. We detoured from the RSPB car park into Parkend which is about a mile away and had a coffee and panini in a café attached to a cycle hire/shop next to the steam railway station. It was the only café open on a sunday but very good none the less. We didn't bother to cross the golf course at the end of the walk as it was very busy and just continued by road back into Coleford.
