Climbing to 1,454m, this walk gives spectacular views of the 3,000-metre peaks of the Sierra Nevada, snow-covered from around November to June, to the south and over Sierra Huétor Natural Park to the north. All the climbing is done in the first third of the walk, making it suit an early start on a hot day. Collado de los Blancares at 1,297m is the high point between Guadix and Granada on the spectacular mountain route that in the nineteenth century was the principal route between those two cathedral cities.
