Kingfishers within the city boundary of Nottingham!
Colwick Country Park is maintained by the City of Nottingham and is the scene for beautiful views over the River Trent and a haven for water birds that have made the two lakes either their home or a stopping-off place in their migration. Whilst enjoying your walk be on the lookout for kingfishers, which can often be seen darting along the river and streams.
As this is mainly a waterside walk, the terrain is perfectly flat and the well-maintained paths make most of the walk suitable for wheelchair users, although there is a slight diversion during the walk to cater for wheelchairs. Although perfect at any time of the year, Colwick Country Park looks beautiful in autumn, especially when the sun is shining on the lakeside trees viewed from the south of the lakes.
Our walk starts at the car park on Mile End Road, Colwick and takes us by a stream to its junction with the River Trent and then onward round two further lakes. We then pass by a children's playground and look over to Nottingham Racecourse. From there we pass the ruins of St John's Church, which was built in the 13th Century. Its deacons stupidly donated its lead off the roof to help the war effort, causing irreparable damage. We pass by Colwick Hall and another lake before returning to our starting point.
