This walks starts at the car park for Crathie Church and Balmoral Castle. It follows a narrow lane past Crathie churchyard to a suspension bridge over the River Dee. After crossing the river, a short stretch on a quiet road leads to woodland track. It continues within sight of the river, before turning through some scrub woodland. A short stretch past agricultural land leads to woodland, gradually rising to open heather moorland. The descent from the moor leads past the Royal Lochnagar Distillery. Visitors are welcome and conducted tours are available. Continuing downwards takes you back to the river crossing. Instead of returning straight to the car park, an opportunity is given to go to the gates of Balmoral Castle and possibly visit the castle and grounds between the months of April and July.

Lovely walk. We saw the Queen too. Arriving at church about 11.30am. Great to see. Also a red squirrel and deer. How lucky we were.
