This walk takes you through the delightful, though steep, woodland of Via Gelia, followed by an interesting walk through Bonsall Village. This is full of ancient cottages and history. The King's Head Pub can be visited if open. We then climb up onto Masson Hill to get glorious views down to Matlock and across to High Tor and Riber Castle. The way then points back towards Cromford, to pass by the top of the cable-car ride, through further hilly woodland until the end is reached.

Excellent walk - fantastic views. Superb cafe in Bonsall - Queens Head cafe, next to cross. Good food and muddy boots welcome - indoor or outdoor seating, dogs welcome in covered seating area.

The first part of this walk is pretty pointless and uninspiring: a steep climb through woodland (so no view to reward the effort)followed by a steep descent all the way back down to the road, only to have to climb back up again the other side of the valley. May be better to look for another route from Cromford to Bonsall. Beyond Bonsall fantastic views over the Derwent Valley and beyond.
