A wonderful, leisurely walk part-way along a lovely stretch of the Oxford Canal that flows through Cropredy and as far as Claydon Locks, before turning off to walk in strikingly beautiful countryside with superb views.

Note that some of the farmland paths on the return are not visible on the ground, so be prepared for some slightly challenging navigation.

This walk is not 7 miles. I measured it 5.7 miles. Direction number 5 says walk into another field where in fact you walk into another field then follow path through a hedge into a third field then go diagonally over the field. Did cause a bit of confusion. Otherwise a very nice walk.

The authors of this have re-walked the route, and found no problem finding the way. Some amendments have been made but the footpaths are clearly marked and well used. We can only assume that the walker who thought this walk needed updating left the canal at the wrong point and was unable to find the footpaths to continue.

This walk is really out of date and difficult to follow. I think it needs to be re-walked by the original author and completely resubmitted. The basic problem is that once you get away from the canal, large parts of the walk simply do not exist any more (the original paths seem to have been blocked off) and it is difficult to work out where you are on a map although luckily I had a useful app on my iphone which could identify my location. The Canal walk is interesting but best just to walk up it and come back!
