The walk starts at the visitor centre in Daisy Nook Country Park. It heads westerly alongside the first of two disused canals (Hollinwood Branch Canal), partially filled-in, then alongside a golf course. It then leaves the canal to continue above the golf course and through woodland to reach an urban road. The walk next continues through a small village before returning to Daisy Nook. The final part of the walk goes roughly parallel with the River Medlock to a car park area and returns to the start point alongside the second disused canal(Fairfield Branch canal), also partially filled-in. This walk crosses the River Medlock several times. There are excellent views along the stretch above the golf course and also on the stretch just after the village.

The majority of the walk is in countryside. There are two pubs on the walk. There is a cafe at the visitor centre. This walk is classed as moderate because there are a number of muddy or boggy patches. Although the height gain seems low to medium there are a number of peaks and troughs and the maximum difference is about 42 metres.

With regards to the comment posted 05/05/18 I have reported the problem to Oldham Council today 08/05/18.I will monitor the situation.

I have just walked along part of thiswalk today (05/05/2018).Between WM03 and WM04 you cross a small stream via steps and a footbridge. The footbridge and steps are damaged. The stream can be crossed quite easily by walking upstream for approx. 2-3 metres. Cross the stream via 'stepping' stones (first being a white stone just below the bank. ON the opposite bank follow the narrow path back to the site of the stream. There are two alternatives routes which can be followed to avoid the stream. Alternative One (longer route). At WM03 continue along the canal to reach the railway line. Turn right and follow the track which veers away from the railway to reach WM04. Alternative Two (Shorter route). At WM03 cross the stile and cross the first stile on the right Bear right to another stile and continue onto Brookdale Golf Course. Go straight ahead, through a gap, dropping down to wooden walkways, and then over a small bridge. Continue on through woodland bearing right and then left across a bridge over the River Medlock and up ahead steeply to the top bearing right and following arrows along the Golf Course. Head straight, towards a pylon to find a gap between the houses. Turn right and follow the road to WM07.
