The walk is based on the village of Daresbury, now with a Lewis Carroll Visitor Centre in the church. It goes through farmland belonging to Daresbury Hall to reach the Bridgewater Canal, which is followed to Walton Hall, where there is a cafe and toilets, before picking up the Delamere Trail. A large stretch of this is on bridleways leading back to the farmland around the Daresbury Hall. If you start with Walk 3996 you can join seamlessly onto this walk on the canal to give one of a total of 15km.

Excellent and very enjoyable walk. But a few details have changed. Waypoint 11. Stay on the golf buggy track all the way to the end, then follow the ditch on your left. Cross the ditch and continue straight until you see the gate to the lane. Waypoint 18-19. A paddock with stiles is now in your way. Either cross it or walk around, and you will come to a marker post and an overgrown path between the buildings. Follow it to the main road. Waypoint 22. The prominent tree and telegraph pole are gone. Instead, walk with the hedge on your right until you come to a kissing gate. Go through it and turn left until you come to the well trodden path. Turn right and follow it to waypoint 24.
