From the large village of Deddington, this walk visits the two much smaller villages of The Barfords, always in wonderful countryside, with splendid views and surroundings. Deddington could almost be defined as a small town, self-sufficient in amenities and services. Standing on a hill at an important crossroads, it was once of great significance and had its own castle, now just a mound. The huge church dominates all the other buildings around it, but all are interesting and many of them very old.

The two other villages included in this walk are very much smaller: Barford St John, little more than a hamlet and only a few steps from the bigger Barford St Michael. Both are a delight to walk through and are individual in character, each having its own church. The route of this walk, along paths, tracks and bridleways, takes in a wonderful old water mill, sadly no longer used; and follows part of the perimeter of a disused airfield, now a wireless station.

The contours of the land are quite spectacular and present the walker with ever-changing scenes, frequent far-reaching views and the occasional strenuous uphill climb.

Loved this walk.Thank you!! I combined it with 2 others in the local area to make a 16 mile figure of 8 with Deddington as it's centre. Worth noting that as of 19th March 2015 the paths through fields at points 10-11 and 14-15 are not currently clearly marked.Explorer maps come into their own over landranger in these circumstances. All of the other ROWS were well posted. In winter, this is not a walk for people who don't like mud.
