The walk starts in the small village of Denshaw. You leave the village climbing up to the first reservoir we walk alongside. It uses part of a pack-horse route and part of the Oldham Way to reach the main road between Oldham and Halifax (A672) which is crossed twice before crossing the moors (Denshaw Moor) to the first reservoir (Readycon Dean). After walking alongside the reservoir there is a short climb before walking down to the second reservoir (Dowry), passing the remains of the Dowry Castle. After leaving the reservoir you climb again up to Castleshaw Moor via part of the Pennine Bridleway before dropping back to the start via the hamlet of Ox Hey and crossing the River Tame.
