The Blackmore Vale countryside in which nestles the village of Minterne Magna is truly delightful and this short walk around Dogbury Hill above the village rewards minimal effort with some lovely woodland stretches and some spectacular views.

Close to Waymark 3 there is at least one fox's earth and in the spring you might be lucky enough to see fox cubs at play, as well as enjoy a profusion of bluebells. Minterne House in the village is open only for organised parties, but the gardens, landscaped in the manner of Capability Brown in the 18th Century, are open to the public. The gardens contain a unique collection of Himalayan rhododendrons and azaleas and are noted for their autumn colouring.

For opening times see www.minterne.co.uk. Food and drink are served at Hunter's Moon pub (ST 669074) in Middlemarsh, two miles from the start of the walk, on the A352.
