Here is an unusual, interesting and instructive walk around the beautifully maintained grounds of the former Crichton Royal Hospital, nowadays incorporating the campus of the University of Glasgow, University of the West of Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway College. The trail is promoted as a 'health walk' and is mainly on the level, suitable for wheelchair users and stimulating for children, providing colourful information boards and a quiz. The route passes a research dairy farm and wends its way through a superb rock garden. There are two opportunities for refreshments on the route. Allow at least an hour to savour this walk to the full.
