The walk is basically a 'there and back' route and for most of the way you have the choice of either a sandy beach or grassy paths in the sand-dunes. This route gives you a mix of dunes and beach on both the outward and return legs, but you can easily alter this to suit; you will not get lost if you stay between the railway line and the sea. At the East Haven end of the walk, when the tide is out there are large areas of rock shelf with plenty of rock pools to explore.

Between Arbroath and East Links was OK but from East Links to East Haven dog owners let their dog run loose and poop everywhere-even although there is signs everywhere

In August 2012 the final touches were being put on 2 metre wide cycleway from East Haven to Elliot. Grassy paths have vanihsed and the simple bridges were being replace by more solid structures. There is a fence at waymark 4, which combined with the machinery works from the track construction, meant I missed that turning. I therefore walked to Elliot on the new cycleway ( road?!) and came back via the dunes and beach. Still a pleasant enough walk.
