This section of the Water of Leith Walkway follows the river from the cascades by Dean Bridge to its wide and placid estuary at the old port of Leith. The route is mainly alongside the river, but with some sections on city streets. You will be walking through the heart of Edinburgh and passing joggers and dog-walkers on the riverside path, but there is a definite rural and peaceful feel to this linear walk. In Leith, the street named The Shore offers ample opportunity for food and drink. Beyond are the docks and nearby lies berthed the former Royal Yacht 'Britannia' (tour highly recommended). Return to the city centre is quickly and easily made by any number of competing buses.
