El Hierro: Almonds and Pines

This walk illustrates the remarkably varied landscape of El Hierro. Starting by cultivated fields, it passes through groves of almond trees before entering the forest of Canarian pines. High up, the forest suddenly becomes a mixture of laurel and tree heather before reaching the dry picon on the top of the island. As you climb through the forest, turn back to enjoy the view but reserve your excitement for the views over La Frontera from the top ridge of the island.
