El Hierro: On the Edge

This walk covers two very different landscapes. The first and last parts are mostly a walk between stone walls which, if the stone had been limestone instead of volcanic rock, would be very reminiscent of the area above Malham. The middle section is a cliff-edge walk with outstanding views across El Golfo and Frontera. On this section you may suffer from vertigo. The cliff edge is some way away but it is a very long way down. But you can decide when to walk inside the wall or outside it. There are a lot of stone walls to cross when - as you will sometimes have to do - you are walking inside the wall.

This walk is a must on your El Hierro-visit! But it recommends nice weather, or else you can't enjoy the fantastic view over El Golfo. On our 3rd try in Jan. 2017, we succeeded, and had a great walk! Dont be dependent on having lunch at Mirador La Pena, as the restaurant closed in Dec. 2016 for refurbishment (will last until further, as it seemed like the roof needed support...).
