El Ventorro - CaƱon de los Tajos - Alhama de Granada - Return

The walk starts from a small lake in front of El Ventorro. El Ventorro is an old Arabic hot-spring bath built into the cliffs and now a hotel restaurant with some luxurious cave (troglodyte) bedrooms to enjoy from sixty euros a night including breakfasts! The stroll passes alongside the small lake into a wooded area with the opposite of a bottleneck to be observed on your right, so that the water running from the lake and the mountains can be controlled after a storm. After crossing a bridge over the river you proceed into the gorge, following the river downhill into Alhama de Granada, with the track rising and falling as it passes the beautiful cave hermitage of Los Angeles and some troglodyte houses. You climb a zigzag up to the town hall and church and stroll through the old, remarkably original, Arab quarter to pass Inquisition House, a 15th Century church, the original jail set in a delightful square, the grain store built on an old synagogue and the Queen's Hospital built in 1485, downhill to the old dungeons. You return past the tourist information centre and town hall, opposite the castle through the town back down to the gorge and footpath to the car.
