The beauty of Mid-Wales is little-known and is still unspoilt by the tourist industry. Long may it remain so, but the maintenance of the footpaths is poor and many appear to be deliberately blocked. A campaign is required.

This walk commences at Esgair Fochnant campsite on the Owain Glyndower Way and starts with a steep climb. After this it is downhill or reasonably flat. You walk past the lonely Glaslyn Lake to the more picturesque Bugeilyn Lake, with the opportunity to visit the Glaslyn Nature Reserve.

Glance at the map and you may be tempted to try a circular walk by using the path shown on the OS map to the south-west of Afon Dulas. That was my initial intention and my advice is - 'Don't'. Whichever direction you chose you would soon find yourself in very steep, knee-deep, trackless heather with all the dangers that implies for your ankles. The stiles have been destroyed at both ends and for once, I don't intend to lodge a complaint.
