You can walk on the beach all the way, when the walk is 5.5 miles, but the beach is bordered by a vertical sand cliff for three-quarters of the way, making getting off the beach very difficult. Better to walk along the top of the cliff... the views are better there too. The beach obtains a plentiful supply of sand by erosion of the largest area of dunes in the country; pill-boxes built during World War ll are now 25m into the sea at high tide!

Walking above the beach, through the heather and pine-covered dunes, the walk is seven miles. At the start you choose your own path through the dunes for about a kilometre; from then on the paths are good.
