This is a public transport walk using the 272 service from Sheffield to Castleton, or the 279 service from Chesterfield to Castleton. Alternatively, it is possible to park at the Fox Inn and catch the bus back from Hathersage Post Office.

The walk ascends gently along Burbage Brook and onto Stanage Moor, before a steep, but very short climb leads to Stanage Edge at the Cowper Stone trig pillar. After traversing Stanage Edge for 2km, the walk descends gently into Hathersage.

This walk uses obvious and well-trodden paths, some of which are quite rocky and can be muddy.

Note for dog owners Parts of this walk are not on public footpaths so please check restrictions before going in this area area at www.countrysideaccess.gov.uk. Select National Parks then Peak District to see the restricted areas. It is possible that dogs may not be allowed on parts of this walk.
