This is the second part of the traditional first day of the GR11 Pyrenees Atlantic to Mediterranean coast-to-coast walk. Taken with Walk 3117 GR11 Stage 1a - Cabo Higuer to Irún it would constitute a 31km route to Vera de Bidasoa, but if you have taken the suggestion of a first part evening stroll and have now recovered from the promenade restaurant, it is time to head off into the country for a thoroughly enjoyable day's walking. The route starts just beyond the motorway on the outskirts of Irún, heading more or less due south to the Endara Reservoir, then turns east over the San Anton Pass before dropping down into Vera de Bidasoa. Enjoy the scenery back towards Irún and the coast and the prospect of days to come as you head towards the 900m peak and viewpoint of La Rhune that you will pass close by after Vera. A good chance to get familiar with the vagaries of the red and white GR11 waymark markings; it is amazing how you learn to spot them after a while.
