The walk starts from the entrance to Gawsworth Hall, which is well worth a visit on your return. It soon crosses meadowland with views of the Peak District. After a short road section the Macclesfield Canal is reached, where refreshments can be had at the Fools Nook public house.

The route now follows the canal for about two miles until a lock is reached. Here you can pause to watch the boats going through the lock before continuing on a very short road section, then taking to the countryside again to North Rode.
After passing through a farmyard the route continues back to Gawsworth across several fields, passing a delightful fishing-lake.
