This route uses lanes, footpaths and bridleways north-west of Gillamoor. Roadside parking is available near to the Royal Oak Inn in the village. We first pass through the village of Fadmoor and then continue westward to enter the sparsely populated and lesser-known of the North York Moors Dales, Sleightholmedale. The walk completely circles Boonhill Common and a private road serves Penny Holme, which is also a public footpath. Just before Penny Home we leave the road and climb up to Stonely Woods. We then use public footpaths and bridleways to get back to Gillamoor. As you walk down Sleightholmedale, Aldergate Bank and Potato Nab is a prominent feature on your left. This is a 1,000-feet-high landmark which can be seen many miles away in the Vale of Pickering. The walk down this dale leaves a rambler wanting to return and explore the many rights of way which a walker can use to get from Sleightholmedale into Bilsdale.
