The walk starts with a good pull up on a quiet country road before heading across open moorland to the ridge on the north side of the Dee Valley. The views all round are great, with especially good views of the Berwyns. There's an opportunity to divert to the summit of Moel Morfydd, adding about two-thirds of a mile and 300ft of climb. The descent mainly follows old tracks - probably drove roads - with the last one and a quarter miles again on quiet roads.
You may well see red grouse on the moors and perhaps even black grouse also. It would be unusual not to see buzzards here.

On a clear day the views from this walk are truly excellent, and it is well worth the additional climb to Moel Morfydd to achieve a 360 degree panorama. If you are tempted to leave the Moel Morfydd summit by what appears on the map to be a clear path to the South East be aware that the path soon deviates from that shown on the map and takes you too far in an easterly direction. Not to worry though - if you do continue on this path you will eventually reach a fence which if you follow it right will rejoin the route at way mark 13.
