Great Witcombe - Barrow Wake - Birdlip - Roman Villa

The walk starts and ends at the car park of Great Witcombe's Roman villa. Following the Cotswold Way for some distance, you are provided with great views and the chance to spot a variety of wildlife (we spotted our first woodpecker). The route continues to Barrow Wake viewpoint for panaromic views and maybe a visit to the nearby Air Balloon Pub.

The route follows well-used paths, bridleways and field-paths. Most gradients are gradual and any climbs are steep but short.

Lovely walk but it was closer to 9.5 miles with a few shortcuts. The air balloon pub was a bit off route but can recommend the Royal George which you pass at waymarker 19 at around 7 miles into the walk.

Parking is very limited at the Roman Villa, try using a different start point on the route. The viewpoint at waypoint 16 had good parking. There was also quite a lot of traffic noise at 16 when we had our half time sandwich stop, starting here and stopping at the Roman Villa would be more peaceful.
