Leaving the National Trust car park at Greenleighton Quarry, we walk down to the farm and through the edge of Greenleighton Wood. We walk across rough grazing land, following part of the Trust's marked walk to bring us to Fontburn Reservoir.

Here we follow the bridle-path around the top end of the reservoir, crossing feeder streams to reach Newbiggin Farm. Continuing on the bridle-path, we cross more moorland grazing and the old railway line to reach Ritton White House Farm. We pick up a footpath leading us down to a lovely sheltered spot along the River Font, then on to Roughlees Farm.

Our final section takes us around the front of the reservoir, then across moorland where 'shake holes' can be seen before reaching the top of Greenleighton Hill and a short walk back to the car park.

Lovely walk, if extremely boggy throughout! It was more like 9 miles, according to Google GPS tracking: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=217330101987525755331.0004d2a1c9556bab08cd5.
