A pleasant little walk mostly on tracks and lanes, starting from the tiny, pretty village of Hardwick and then circling round to Hardwick Parks and on to the edge of Standlake. From here a fine, straight bridleway of considerable length and a joy to walk, leads to a quiet, narrow country lane where the landscape is flat, but attractive. A section of road-walking needs undertaking with care before a footpath leads off through a nature reserve by lakes and Hardwick Parks, where there is camping and caravanning and a number of watersports facilities. The keen birdwatcher will be captivated by the amount of waterfowl and even those who take no particular interest in them cannot fail to be impressed by the sight and sounds of so many birds.

The walk starts with a long section of busy main road with no verge or pavement which makes it unsafe for children. The first path is not signed from the main road so its easy to miss it; its not used much and you can expect to encounter brambles and nettles. The rest of the paths are fine, and the first half of the walk is best.

The road walking sections are on fast roads which is not pleasant. The lakes are very beautiful but all too often one is looking at them through a hedge - take the time to stop when you have access to the lakeshore to enjoy the views and the wildlife.
