Starting off in the centre of the village of Hartest, this route takes you on a complete exploration of the northern side. The route starts by following very quiet, narrow, country lanes followed by public footpaths past a shooting lodge and through the open countryside south of Brockley Green. The route then continues along field edges and more quiet country lanes to Somerton.

As you pass through Somerton you cannot miss the water pump that is just off the road. This is fully functional and a rare feature of today's villages. After heading around the corner from here the land drops down into a small valley and allows for some lovely views south.

The return route takes you along field edges and quiet tracks round to a path that takes you alongside the village pub for a well-earned drink or meal.

Lovely rural ramble, well sign posted but make sure you are on the left side of the tree line at waymark 18. We went to the right and had a tricky moment when we realised the steps to waymark 19 were on the other side of a steep bank!
