A very interesting walk around the historic Hartlepool Headland following the full perimeter of the old peninsula town. The route is extended beyond the Headland to include a long, glorious section of beach called North Sands that features a derelict pier. In order to make this a circular walk there is a little under half a mile of unavoidable back street walking around the Headland. The route includes nearly four miles of the England Coast Path.

The walk starts from the old lighthouse situated on the Heugh on the most eastern point of the peninsula and travels in a clockwise direction around the outer extremities of the Headland before heading north west as far as the edge of Hartlepool Golf Club where the route intersects the North Sea beach at North Sands. The walk then heads south east along the beautiful beach passing beneath the old derelict Steetley Pier. The final lap of the walk travels along the magnificent wide promenade that returns you back to the start point.
