This is my favourite station to station walk starting in Hatfield Peverel and finishing in Chelmsford. You follow lengthy sections of the River Chelmer and a short section along the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation. The rest of the walk involves mainly field paths, some with amazing views and also some residential roads at the start before joining the riverside path.
En-route you will pass Paper Mill Lock where you can hire kayaks or just sit by the river enjoying refreshments from the couple of food outlets here. At the end of the walk you get a chance to browse the shops and visit Chelmsford Cathedral as you walk through the city centre making your way to the station.
All paths were clear (Aug 2022) some were not signposted but following the instructions and the waymark photos, you will be fine. All in all a great family day out.
