This walk starts at the village of Herringswell which is at the end of a dead-end road, two miles east of the A11 at Red Lodge.
The route is partly along the long distance path Icknield Way, a tree-lined track, with no stiles. There is a very short part on pavements, through the village of Red Lodge, where there is an excellent pub.

A route through an unremarkable agricultural landscape although it might be more attractive in the summer rather than a gloomy January day. There is one, albeit short, stretch on what was quite a busy road with little or no verge, but thankfully not for long. The route took me past a car scrap yard and the local recycling centre but the dog didn't mind and enjoyed stretching his legs over the 6 miles.
