A ramble through the undulating terrain on the East Durham/South Tyne & Wear border, making use on the way of a couple of former mineral railway lines. This circular walk starting from the picturesque Hetton Lyons Country Park provides good views and includes a visit to the newly installed unmanned weather forecasting station at High Moorsley.

From Hetton Lyons Country Park the route briefly passes along Hetton-le-Hole main street before intersecting and following a railway path. Leaving the railway path the walk rises steeply up to the weather radar sation just above High Moorsley. The next section of the walk is open fields where there are good panoramic views of the Durham countryside. The route then passes through the hamlet of Hetton-le-Hill after which is track and field with a brief woodland walk where the terrain descends then rises steeply to the highest point of the walk at High Haswell. A little road walking follows on quiet roads to intersect a railway path that passes through South Hetton. A section of field and lane walking follows to intersect yet another of the old railway paths that are a common feature in this part of the north east to return the walker back to the Hetton Lyons Country Park.
