The walk begins in the Country Park by Hollingworth Lake and climbs, mainly though woodland to the village of Lydgate. Here the Pennine Bridleway is picked up and followed down to the lake, a circuit of which brings you back to the start. Although the walk is below the highest hills in this area, the views to the south and west are extensive. The walk gets progressively easier, the few tricky navigational points and terrain all being near the start. Note: on a second visit, the owner of Owlet Hall saw us struggling to cross the stream and brought a plank from his garage; we put this across and if it stays in place then the problem is removed.
