Horcajo de Los Montes - Plaza de Los Moros Circular

From the church Horcajo de Los Montes we begin with a steep climb out of the town to join a lane that will bring us to the CM4106 local road. We follow this south for about 800m before joining a dirt road that will lead us to a car park and information boards. From here we continue north-west along a track until we reach the point where we begin a not difficult climb, twisting and turning our way through delightful Mediterranean forest. Anyone who does not wish to climb to the Plaza de Los Moros can simply continue along the track until reaching the waymark where the path descending from the summit rejoins. From the trig point on the summit the panoramas are splendid. We leave following a ridge path for a while before descending to rejoin the track we left earlier. This is called the Ruta Sierra Castellar and we follow it for about 1.5km before we pass through olive groves to join a wide dirt road heading west. This brings us to the major new Campañeros Visitors Centre (due to open late 2015). Beyond that we reach the CM4107 road and have only to follow it for about 800m to reach Horcajo again.
