The walk starts in a lay-by on the B3400 before heading along country tracks and returning to the busy B3400 for a short stretch. The route heads north through the countryside once more, passing by Faulkner's Farm and its pungent recycling activities!

Upon reaching the B3400 for the third time, the walk heads south through picturesque woodland, then pleasing countryside before reaching Longparish.

Here the walker can take in numerous thatched cottages before being taken on a detour through village meadows and past the 13th Century Church of St Nicholas, before returning to the main village.

After passing the first pub in the village, the walk heads north and then east before joining up near to the second pub in the village.

The walk then continues to head east past the entrance to the manor-house before heading north through woodland and returning to the start of the walk.

We were staying with friends at The Long Room in Longparish and so started from there. Longparish has lots of lovely thatched properties. We did find the part of the route where you come off at WM 8 to 10 a bit dull and never ending in its sameness at one stage but we kept going and just managed to beat the rain even with a detour into the village church in Longparish to see its great stained glass windows.

Walk reviewed and updated on a warm spring day. Length of walk increased to 9 miles and instructions updated. First pub in village is still closed but will be opening soon as a community pub. Signage throughout walk is pretty good.

Super, social distancing-friendly, walk. Layby for parking is at torniamo.terzino.portate (what3words.com). Quintessential wide green lanes/byways, English countryside, thatched cottages, churches, the converted chapel with a stream passing in front. At this time of year, the colour palette also makes it a landscape photographer’s delight so I enjoyed scouting the walk for another visit. Substantial tree cover makes it an excellent walk for a hot summer’s day. My Tim Cook/Dick Tracy watch made the distance about 9 miles.

A cracker of a Test Valley walk; well directed, quiet and scenic. I can see how the brief road walking required at WM4 could be less-than-pleasant when busy (verges are narrow), so pick a quieter time! The woodland section at WM8 was especially beautiful, as was the route through Longparish. The Plough Inn at WM15 was not easily identifiable as it’s currently closed and up for sale. Felt comfortably longer than 6 miles, not that I was complaining.
