Huthwaite Green - Barker's Crags - Carlton Bank - Huthwaite Green

A walk with three distinctly different characters and with ever-changing scenery on the edge of The North York Moors National Park. It starts with a delightful stroll up a peaceful little dale before climbing to cross open moor with views opening up of other dales and moors all the while. The return section is along an escarpment which offers superb far-reaching views over a patchwork of fields and hamlets to the west and south, as well as the more industrialised centres to the north.

I did this walk yesterday, like other comments, fantastic views on the top. When we climbed the crags, I did need a compass to find the path because the heather was quite high. Easy to find though. The phone box in picture 1 has long since gone and the waste bin in the photo has been moved to the back of the parking space. I will upload a new photograph for inclusion in the walk notes.

What a fantastic walk! Did this yesterday on a bright crisp November day. The gliding club is no longer there and there are many paths to take once up there. No building to use as markers, but head for the triangulation point in the distance on the hilltop. Beautiful views for miles. My dog loved running through the heather flushing out all the grouse!

The gliding club has long since closed.

What a great walk!!
We did this yesterday in bright sunshine. The views from start to finish are fantastic, especially when at the triangulation point. 2 points to note are that make sure you take the right path up to the crag as the fern is tall and thick and surrounded by bog. Also take care when near the gliding club as you get close to the gliders taking off and landing along with the falling winch wire.
